Breakfast seminar this morning at GoCo Health Innovation City on healthcare management during conflict & crisis. I am sure we will have more of these discussions, especially since Sweden became a full member of NATO last March. 💡Below a few Key takeaways: Matthew Travis from AstraZeneca stressed the importance of engaging with authorities for civil defense planning, highlighting public-private cooperation for ensuring medical supplies. Businesses are often directly or indirectly impacted by war. It is crucial to secure internal capabilities by ex. having first aid stations, cybersecurity systems, personnel training and financial preparedness. Rickard Brånemark from Integrum discussed the urgent need for innovative amputee care in Ukraine. He called for more public support and international cooperation. Former Military Commander Karl L E Engelbrektson emphasized the importance of medical triage systems, time, troops, terrain, and healthcare capacity assessment. There are still many gaps to fill at all levels. We need clear leadership and accountability. Eric Carlström from Göteborgs universitet mentioned Sweden's healthcare system challenges, underlying the need for improved medical preparedness. 🌟 Mpya Sci & Tech, a consulting and recruitment firm in the realm of science and technology based in Gothenburg, continues to impress us! This time, they hosted a captivating breakfast seminar featuring Anders Tegnell, the famous Swedish State Epidemiologist who played a pivotal role in shaping Sweden's response to the #COVID19 pandemic. 🦠 I was thrilled to learn about Mpya Sci&Tech's expansion in #Gothenburg since their inception in 2019, with exciting plans for further growth, especially within the pharma and medtech sectors. 💼💡 Anders shed light on Sweden's approach to handling the pandemic, which resulted in remarkably lower excess mortality compared to other European countries. No lockdowns were part of our strategy, as we weighed the adverse effects against their efficacy in curbing the spread of the virus. Terms like herd immunity and flattening the curve sparked intense debates, while communication within the system and with the public faced its challenges, especially among the foreign-born population. Despite the hurdles, our health system delivered top-notch care, although the vulnerability of elderly care emerged as a significant challenge, our Aquille’s Heel”. Schools remained open, restaurants operated with restrictions, and face masks were not mandatory—highlighting Sweden's unique approach. My favourite takeaway 💡 There are enormous financial, demographic, and epidemiological pressures on health care systems around the world. These pressures are well known and are increasing every day. For accelerating its transformation to a more proactive, efficient, collaborative and agile system, we might need to use a bottom-up and inclusive approach for making sure all parts of the organisation are willing to contribute to that transformation.
